Exterior Preparation

Exterior preparation can make up the majority of work required to do in an external painting job.  There are a few important issues to consider prior to starting your painting project.

Look for areas that may have some sort of damage, rot or rust. These will all require some attention prior to starting your project.

An adhesion test  is important so you don’t paint onto an unsound surface.  Test the surfaces for lead paint, and check for asbestos with a professional prior to disturbing the surface.

Scraping and sanding is the most important part to give you a sound base to help you achieve a long lasting finish. This can be either done by hand or machine depending upon how much prep work is required.

If you are attempting to do it yourself take your time and make sure you use the right equipment for the right job.
